Please register for catechism (2014-15) online, by clicking here. Those who do not have internet access can request an application form from the office. Completed forms should be returned no later than Aug 24 (Sun).

    • If you are new to the Parish and wish to register your children in catechism, you must first register as a parishioner, which can also be done on-line.
    • Please be aware that there is limited space for all levels, especially Levels 2 and 4. For levels 2 and 4, one year of attendance at catechism prior to these sacramental years is required.
    • Priority will be given to children of catechists and volunteers.
    • If you wish to become a catechist or volunteer for the programme in any way, or for further information regarding registration, contact Jane Gannon at rec@johnxxiii.ch.

assumption Solemnity of the Assumption

On Aug 15 (Fri), Mass commemorating the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will take place at 12:45 and 18:30 in the Church.
“The Mother of Jesus in the glory which she possesses in body and soul in heaven is the image and the beginning of the church as it is to be perfected in the world to come.” (Constitution on the Church, 68)

Thank you again for your generosity in 2013 especially for your support of our sister parish in Turkana. Total donations in 2013 were CHF 170,071, compared to CHF173,339 in 2012. Details of donations made by the John XXIII Parish in 2013 can be viewed here.

sun Summer Mass Schedule

As is now customary, there will be no 8:30 Mass on Sunday mornings during the summer months of July and August. Our normal Mass Schedule will resume in September.
Please also note that during the summer, the Parish Office will be open Mon – Fri, from 9:00-12:00.


SoupKitchen Soup Kitchen

On Aug 29 (Fri. lunchtime), our Parish will once again help out at the Soup Kitchen, operated by Carrefour-rue. Volunteers and cash donations are needed (any amount is welcome). Cash donations can be paid through the Parish Office or credited to the parish account.Please indicate: “Contribution to the Soup Kitchen”. Thank you very much for your generosity! If you, or someone you know would like to become a Catholic, or if you are a Catholic but have not yet been confirmed, or you simply want to know more about your faith, then we shall soon be starting a “Journeying in Faith” Group with you very much in mind. mark Joint Councils’ Day of Recollection

This year’s PPC+PAC Joint Councils’ Day of Recollection will take place on Oct 4 (Sat) from 9:00 to 16:00. Venue to be decided. All Parish Ministries (coordinators and members) and PAC members, as well as interested parishioners are invited. RSVP to the Parish Office (office@ johnxxiii.ch) if you intend to participate.

Other Services

At Pope John XXIII Parish, a number of Masses and other services are celebrated such as:

  • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in the Parish Chapel at Montbrillant every Friday from 18:00 to 19:00 except for the first Friday of every month when it takes place at 13:15.
  • Marriage: All couples planning to marry should register with us by calling the Parish Office. (Six months notice is the usual requirement.).
  • Funeral Services (Please contact the Parish Priest directly).
  • Baptism Services every 4th Saturday of the month at 12 noon except during the Christmas and Easter Seasons (Contact the Parish Office for more information).
  • The Sacrament of reconciliation (Confession) is available before and after each weekday Mass upon request or by prior arrangement. It will also be offered in the Chapel every Saturday from 17:15-18:00

Over the next five Sundays of August, we are presented with a varied selection of snapshots of the ministry of Jesus, as seen through the eyes of the Evangelist Matthew.  On August 2-3, the 18th in Ordinary Time, Year A, we witness the miraculous feeding of the multitude by Jesus. For Matthew and his community of ‘Jewish’ Christians, the miracle recalled the Old Testament story of manna in the wilderness of Sinai. Jesus is the new Moses, and in this feeding, the peole saw an anticipation of the Eucharist. The gestures and words he uses are those of the Last Supper, and of the Eucharist: ‘He took the bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them. The Eucharist in turn anticipates the final banquet of the Kingdom to come but also speaks to us of God’s love for us spilling out in all the gifts both material and spiritual we receive through life.
