Global Catholic Climate Movement: Laudato Si

Over one year ago, Pope Francis released his historic encyclical Laudato Si: On Care for our Common Home. The encyclical issued an unprecedented call to “address every person living on this planet” about the climate and environmental crisis. This transformative and historic document was to influence the Paris Agreement and our Catholic community’s engagement with the ecological issue.

Day of reflection

Mgr. Bob Vitillo will be the keynote speaker and moderator of a review of the Laudato Si encyclical. Discussion and activities will focus on sustainable development goals, displacement and migration, and what steps we as a Parish can take in this regard. The session will take place on Jan 28 (Sat) from 8:30-13:00 in the Parish House. Registration starts at 8:30. Light refreshments will be served. For further inquiries, kindly contact Annie Yuson of the Laudato Si Community through the Parish Office.

Passion Play Auditions

All (ages 7 – 99) who are interested in participating in the presentation of the Passion Play can come to audition on Jan 22 (Sun) from 13:00 – 16:00 in the Parish House. Both singing and speaking parts are available. Rehearsals will be held throughout the week beginning on Jan 29 (Sun). Frequency of rehearsals will depend upon the size of the role.  Help is needed for various roles. We are currently searching for a stage director, set design/building, publicity, costume/prop aid, and help with the children. Please contact Emily Toole at youth@johnxxiii.ch if you are able to assist.

Catechism New Year Appeal

The children of our Religious Education Programme will have a bake sale on Feb 5 (Sun) after the morning Masses. Funds raised will help: Sr. Lisa Gamble, our parish’s first missionary, in her mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo; provide flip-flops for orphans in East Timor; and our parish to repay loans received for our building works. Baked goods can be brought to the Bake Sale table on Sunday morning.
