advent_wreath Parish Advent Dinner 2014

Our Annual Parish Advent Dinner is coming soon on Dec 5 (Fri) 19:00-22:00! A buffet dinner will be provided, as well as entertainment and a raffle with prizes! Tickets will be sold beginning next weekend (Nov 15-16) after all the Masses on a first come basis.

  • Adults CHF20
  • Children (ages 4-12) CHF10
  • Children under age 4 free!

Volunteers are needed for the preparation and entertainment committees to make this Parish event another wonderful community experience! Those wishing to help in any way can sign up after the Masses, or e-mail to office@johnxxiii.ch.

children_nativity Children’s Christmas Nativity Play

Children ages 3-7, or who are enrolled in Pre-school, Prep and Level One catechism are invited to join in this years Children’s Nativity Play which will take place on 24 Dec (Christmas Eve), at the 16:30 Mass.
Children must be available to attend the one rehearsal on 14 Dec (Sun) from 12:30 to 14:30 in the church. All children will receive a handout from their catechism teacher this weekend providing you with all the details and an RSVP form. Please respond quickly, as roles are assigned on a first come basis! Parents, please don’t forget to indicate whether you can help as usher before the Mass, or can assist guiding the children during the play. The little ones especially appreciate having their family nearby.

Two older children (Level 5 or 6) who are confident English readers are also needed as narrators. If interested, please contact the parish office.

children_choir Children’s Choir

Well, it’s that time of year again to call all children of the Parish between the ages of 7 and 17 to come join the Children’s Christmas Eve choir which will sing for the Christmas Eve children’s Nativity Mass on Dec 24 at 17:00. The next rehearsal will take place on Dec. 7 (Sun), 9:30-10:00 and 11:00-11:30 in Room B7. If you’d like to join the choir or ask any questions, please call the Parish Office.

lector Lectors

Are you interested in taking part in the Lector Ministry? Auditions will be held on Nov 26 (Wed evening). To enrol and obtain further information, please contact the Parish Office.

ppc Parish Pastoral Council

The PPC will meet on Nov 27 (Thu) from 19:00-21:00. All coordinators of the various parish ministries and affiliated groups are invited to attend, as well as any interested parishioners.

Other Services

At Pope John XXIII Parish, a number of Masses and other services are celebrated such as:

  • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in the Parish Chapel at Montbrillant every Friday from 18:00 to 19:00 except for the first Friday of every month when it takes place at 13:15.
  • Marriage: All couples planning to marry should register with us by calling the Parish Office. (Six months notice is the usual requirement.).
  • Funeral Services (Please contact the Parish Priest directly).
  • Baptism Services every 4th Saturday of the month at 12 noon except during the Christmas and Easter Seasons (Contact the Parish Office for more information).
  • The Sacrament of reconciliation (Confession) is available before and after each weekday Mass upon request or by prior arrangement. It will also be offered in the Chapel every Saturday from 17:15-18:00

PopeAdvent: a time for preparation and the family

For years I avoided discussing religion with anyone.  I was scared of the challenges, of being shown that my faith was not strong enough – which it wasn’t!  However, in the past five years I have been on several trips to Africa and the Middle East with Evangelical groups, something I would never have dared do before.  We discussed our beliefs, exchanged ideas, and grew in faith and respect for each other.  My “family” grew larger and more interesting. What made me change?  Seventeen years ago I followed the RCIA course at John XXIII as a sponsor, I went to Taizé and I attended the Ecumenical Cursillo in Geneva.  Cursillo in particular has helped me strengthen my faith enormously.
