Our Annual Parish Advent Dinner is coming soon on Dec 4 (Fri) 19:00-22:00!Tickets (same cost as in previous years) will be sold beginning the weekend of Nov 7/8 (Sat/Sun) after all the Masses on a first come basis.

  • Children (ages 4-12) CHF10
  • Children under age 4 free!

A Mass will be celebrated to remember all our loved ones who have passed away. Those who have lost a family member or friend in this past year are particularly invited to come. The Mass, preceded by a candle lighting ceremony, will take place on Nov 30 (Mon) at 19:00 in the Church. Therefore, those who wish to light a candle for their loved ones are invited to come a few minutes beforehand to do so.The Mass will be followed by a gathering in the Parish House (Room G0). Anyone who can contribute finger food for this gathering are kindly asked to inform the Parish Office.


Interested in spending your summer holiday with the Pope? Join our pilgrimage to Krakow, Poland for World Youth Day next July 24 – August 2, If you are a young person between 16 and 35 or are interested in chaperoning the pilgrimage, please contact our youth minister, Emily Toole at youth@johnxxiii.ch. ppcParish Pastoral Council

The PPC will meet on Nov 23 (Mon) from 18:30-20:30. All chairpersons and coordinators of the various parish ministries and affiliated groups are invited to attend this meeting, as well as any interested parishioners. RSVP to the Parish Office.

On the eve of the Climate Summit (COP21), hundreds of thousands of people will come out to the streets of Paris to march together and affirm loud and clear the demands of our times – from food to employment, energy and poverty eradication. The Climate Summit begins on Nov 30 (Mon).
In all major cities of the world, marches are being organized for Nov 28 (Sat) or Nov 29 (Sun). In Geneva, the march will take place on  Nov 28 (Sat). The assembly point will be at Place des 22 cantons at 13:00. For further information, log on to http://climat21.ch All are invited and encouraged to join!

AAC Assistance Abroad Committee

The Parish’s Assistance Abroad Committee (AAC) sponsors projects (of modest amounts) for the promotion of education and formation in developing countries. Registered parishioners who wish to endorse and submit a project proposal for consideration by the AAC can fill in an application (Forms are available on the Parish website or at the Parish Office.). Applications must be submitted before Nov 30 (Mon). Project proposals will be considered and evaluated according to the AAC Guidelines. Selected applicants will be eventually contacted. For further inquiries, please contact the parish office.

SoupKitchen Soup Kitchen

On Dec 4 (Fri. lunchtime), our Parish will help out at the Soup Kitchen. Volunteers and cash donations are needed (any amount is welcome). Cash donations can be paid through the Parish

One of these chairs could be for YOU! It has been one month since the launch of the first session of Walking With Purpose with over thirty-five women joining us for Keeping in Balance. If you want to come along to a session, but think that it’s too late to check it out, we will be having an OPEN HOUSE/CONNECT COFFEE for you to come and see if WWP is for you. Other Services

At Pope John XXIII Parish, a number of Masses and other services are celebrated such as:

      • Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in the Parish Chapel at Montbrillant every Friday from 18:00 to 19:00 except for the first Friday of every month when it takes place at 13:15.
      • Marriage: All couples planning to marry should register with us by calling the Parish Office. (Six months notice is the usual requirement.).
      • Funeral Services (Please contact the Parish Priest directly).
      • Baptism Services every 4th Saturday of the month at 12 noon except during the Christmas and Easter Seasons (Contact the Parish Office for more information).
      • The Sacrament of reconciliation (Confession) is available before and after each weekday Mass upon request or by prior arrangement. It will also be offered in the Chapel every Saturday from 17:15-18:00

Advent“…your liberation is near at hand.”  (Lk. 12:28)

In today’s Gospel Jesus promises liberation for his followers.  This sense that Jesus comes to set people free is at the heart of our Christian faith. Obviously the next question will be ‘free from what?’, and the answer to that is to be found on different levels. On one level, there is freedom from material need, freedom from hunger, from poverty, and from dependence.  But there is more to freedom than that, as is made clear in the second reading where St. Paul prays that the Thessalonians may have their hearts ‘confirmed in holiness’. When Jesus promises us that our liberation is near at hand, a part of this means that he comes to set us free from all those things which prevent us from being holy.
